Soucoyan

The NDC in late February would again receive recognition for its role in producing a graphic novel entitled Soucoyan. The illustrated full-colour comic book is produced by one of St. Lucia's most recognized artists in the person of Alwyn St. Omer. He too a grant recipient, thanked the NDC for its foresight in conceptualizing and painstakingly implementing a programme that allowed scores of artistes across the length and breadth of the country to realize their dreams, while simultaneously engaging in income generating activities.

Soucoyan is targeted at children as a vehicle for educating them on St. Lucian folk culture. Soucoyan according to fable is a lady of the forest who burst into fire after possessing her victims, usually some poor soul unfortunate enough to get lost in the forest after dark.
