Several initiatives geared towards the growth and development of the agricultural sector in St. Lucia has been agreed upon between the governments of St. Lucia and Mexico. As a result, a team of four agricultural experts from the Ministry of Agriculture in Mexico are currently in St. Lucia carrying out diagnosis of the sector along with their St. Lucian counterparts, with a view to identifying the specific initiatives.
The Mexican experts accompanied by Resident Ambassador in St. Lucia His Excellency Gerardo Lorenzo, met recently with Minister for Agriculture, Lands, Fisheries and Forestry Ezechiel Joseph, as well as other officials of the Ministry.
The team visited laboratories at the Ministry, Beausejour Livestock Station and site where the new meat processing facility is being built in Vieux Fort. The visit also included a number of agro-processors, crop and livestock farmers island-wide, representatives of farmers association and staff of the Division of Agricultural at the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College.
The Mexican agricultural experts are working closely with their local counterparts to complete the diagnosis of the sector and to list the initiatives that the Mexican Government can embark upon to assist the agricultural sector in St. Lucia
