The 38th CARIFTA Championships came to a close in St. Lucia on Easter Monday with St. Lucian athletes putting on a credible performance having won four gold and two silver medals. A newly laid track and spruced up George Odlum National Stadium hosted hundreds of athletes from the French and English speaking Caribbean countries with close to 26 countries participating.

The 38th CARIFTA Games Championships were held under the theme 'Many Races, One People.' A number of local businesses helped make the games a success, among them the East Caribbean Financial Holding Group of Companies, LIME, LUCELEC, Bryden and Partners Limited, M&C, SLASPA, Bay Gardens Hotel and Paradise Springs water.

The main sponsors of the games were National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago and the Guardian Holdings Limited; both have long standing affiliation with the games.
